I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up (I know, it's a relative term). When
I was in school, most of my friends wanted to be teachers or nurses. Those options
never sounded very appealing to me. I do like to teach, but not as a career. I
did enjoy the art classes that the schools provided, but I wasn't very good at drawing or
painting. I did like doing 'scribble' pictures, though.
I enjoyed doing home crafts such as crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitch and
cooking. I thrived on these hobbies when my children were small. It gave
me a feeling of accomplishment to be able to decorate my home with all this 'hand made'
stuff.
To some of you, this may sound totally nerdy, but this was in the late '70's - early
'80's. It was the 'in' thing to do when you start a new family and have a new home.
When I graduated, I immediately started working in an office. I worked in offices
until my children were born. After they started attending school full time, I
returned to office work. I hated it. Some of the offices had no windows to
even know what the weather was like. Then there's that good ol' office politics
thing. I tried to stay away from that as much as possible. I do remember that
between 9:30 - 10:00am, everyday, we would start discussing, where we would go to
lunch. Sounds exciting, doesn't it.
I've done everything that could possibly be done in an office......accounts payable,
accounts receivable, personnel, payroll, purchasing agent, receptionist, office manager,
secretary (hated that one the most).
During all those years, I had no exposure to computers or very little. Not enough to
mention. I didn't have a desire to learn how to use one. I didn't even know
how to turn one on!
Then one day, my fears were becoming a reality. I applied for a position that
required knowledge of the dreaded computer! I informed my potential employer that I
had absolutely no knowledge of using computers. He said that it was fine, I would be
able to learn quickly. I thought, well, if he's willing to hire me, why not!
The first day of employment, changed my life's direction. He showed me where my desk
was and sat me down. There, right in front of my face was that computer. I
told myself not to be nervous. If it doesn't work, there's always something else, I
could do. He pointed to the various computer accessories, (keyboard, monitor, mouse,
printer, CPU, etc.) and said that the manual was in the top left hand drawer and to start
exploring!
Then I found the paint program! Very primitive as I look back. I was
fascinated! Wow! It could do all these things! I had finally found what
I wanted to be! A computer nerd with art.
Well, as you can sense from the above text, I had never had any formal education in art
or computers. I am self taught. I know that there is an abundance of knowledge
that is to be learned from each graphics program. If I had attended a class or two,
I probably would have found out these little tricks and tips sooner, but I do like to
explore!
I start with a 'blank screen' and just go where ever it takes me. Since each
piece is an original, if someone were to ask me to make the same piece from 'scratch', I
wouldn't be able to do so. I use a variety of programs and techniques in
various order.
I hope that my artwork is pleasing to you. Enjoy the artwork.
If you have any questions about purchasing the artwork
or have any suggestions or comments, please email me.
